We all love celebrities; well, most of us. They’re attractive, talented, and keep us entertained through various forms of art. The world of celebrities may seem like it is all fun to the rest of us normal people.

However, most celebrities can confess that the celebrity lifestyle can take a toll on them sometimes. Job related pressure, substance abuse, unemployment, and the fact that most of them are unable to have a private life are some of the factors that may lead to depression.

The following are some celebrities who have suffered from depression in their lives.

1. Kristen Bell

The star of the famous TV show ‘Veronica Mars’ admitted to Sam Jones in an interview on his popular YouTube show that she is constantly on medication for anxiety and depression.

She also confessed that the problem was common in her family with her grandmother, mother, and other members of her family suffering from depression and anxiety. Her advice to people going through the same problem was to seek help as soon as possible.

2. Lady Gaga

Without a doubt, Lady Gaga has been one of the highly acclaimed pop stars of our generation. However, the ride has not always been smooth.

In an interview with Billboard, the singer revealed that she has been suffering from anxiety and depression all her life. The singer noted that in the modern world, social media has become one of the leading causes of depression among young people, and can even lead to suicidal thoughts if not dealt with.

Lady Gaga founded the Born This Way Foundation to help young people suffering from depression.

3. The Rock

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is one of the highest earning movie stars in Hollywood today. When he was younger, he had a dream of being a pro football player.

When his dreams were crushed in his early twenties after being rejected by the NFL and a Canadian football team, The Rock suffered from severe depression and describes that as the lowest point in his life. However, he found a new dream and has a long list of accomplishments under his belt.

The Rock uses his inspirational story to encourage people to never give up under any circumstances.

4. Jon Hamm

Years before he even started acting, Jon Hamm was going through a terrible time in his life. When he was just 20 years old, the actor lost his father, which was 10 years after he had lost his mother to cancer.

This led to chronic depression which made him rely on antidepressants and therapy to help him overcome depression.

Hamm encourages people in a similar situation to seek help without fear of the stigma celebrities sometimes face when they reveal their mental health problems to the world.

5. Owen Wilson

In 2007, friends, family, and millions of the beloved actor received the shocking news that Owen Wilson had attempted suicide.

This was unbelievable to many people especially the fans who were used to seeing him taking on roles as the lovable, funny guy.

His depression was attributed to addiction issues and his breakup with actress Kate Hudson. Wilson got help and now has his career back on track, and children to give meaning to life.
